After the massive success of series 1 “Medici : Masters of Florence” ,starring Dustin Hoffman and Richard Madden, the sequel “Medici : Lorenzo The Magnificent” is being released on the 23rd October 2018.
The eight-hour series, which was shot in historic locations in Tuscany and in studios in Rome, stars Daniel Sharman (“Teen Wolf”) as Lorenzo de Medici , Bradley James (“Homeland”) as Giuliano de Medici and Sean Bean (“Game of Thrones”) as Jacapo de Pazzi ,Callum Blake (“Dunkirk”) as Carlo de Medici,the illegitimate son of Cosimo de Medici played by Richard Madden. Rather than being billed as a second season of “Medici: Masters of Florence,” “The Magnificent” was conceived as a different show and will have a different look from the first series. Jon Cassar, the exec producer and director of “24: Legacy” and “24: Live Another Day,” has come on board to direct the this series
“The Magnificent” begins in Florence in 1469, where an attempt on Piero de Medici’s life forces his son Lorenzo (Sharman) to assume leadership of the family-run bank. Once in power, young Lorenzo, nicknamed The Magnificent, resolves to do things differently, which swiftly brings him into conflict with the head of Florence’s other powerful banking family, Jacopo Pazzi (Sean Bean).
Series 3 “Medici: The Magnificent Part II
Canadian director Christian Duguay (“Belle & Sebastian,” “Coco Chanel”) is directing the third season of Frank Spotnitz’s “Medici” television saga, which has started shooting in Rome with Italian actor Francesco Montanari attached to play radical preacher Girolamo Savonarola, who became leader of Florence after the Medici family’s overthrow in 1494.
Duguay succeeds Jon Cassar (“24”), who helmed “Medici: The Magnificent Part I,” which was the show’s second season.
In the third “Medici” season, “Medici: The Magnificent Part II,” Florentine statesman and ruler Lorenzo de Medici, played by Daniel Sharman, “has become a man who will have to fight against his demons and defend Florence from new internal and external threats,” Callum Blake continues in the role of Carlo de Medici with many struggles to overcome.
Cameras have started rolling on “Medici: The Magnificent Part II” in Lux Vide’s studios in Formello, outside Rome for release in 2019.
