New Mills Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society has assembled a talented cast of 22 for this ambitious show which is expertly directed by David Carlile and choreographed by Carolyn Dent. The set and “costumes are excellent and imaginative” and the stage is well-lit. The nine-strong band propels things along nicely.
Adrian Connell : Director Norfolk YMTsummed up this wonderful production :” The music is epic in its grandeur and one of the most complex scores the young members of the Norfolk YMT have had to challenge them.Once I heard and saw the piece I was hooked on it and it has proved to be one of the best pieces of musical-theatre we have undertaken in 22 years.”

Battle of Boat Synopsis
Set in a seaside town on the English south coast in 1916. The carefree happiness of a group of young children is short-lived as they find themselves discovering more and more about the First World War that is unfolding around them. Their initial response, to join the army, is thwarted as they are inevitably each rejected for being too young. There is one exception however as William, the oldest of the group is enlisted and is sent to fight in France. The tale is of the persistent attempts that the children make to do whatever it takes to help their friend and their country, with weaving, powerful themes of rivalry, leadership and battle. The youthfulness of the cast, and of the nation’s young generation lost to the Great War, serve to make the scale and impact of the musical even greater. A real tearjerker.
The Battle Of Boat is an original musical by composer Ethan Lewis Maltby and lyricist Jenna Donnelly. Set during WW1, it follows the adventures of a group of children trying to find their place in a world at war. Heartwarming, funny, emotional and exciting, the musical is performed entirely by children aged 8 to 18.
“They’re creepy and they’re kooky! Mysterious and ookey! They’re all together spooky— and now they’re rising up from the dead all over the place”.
This fun musical is back on licence.

Addams Family Costume Hire – Truly Bewitching !
“NODA” reviews say it all
The Addams Family costumesare all the rage in theatres across the UK. The black-clad family is putting the fun in dysfunctional as they take to the stage. Iconic characters, memorable musical numbers and a guest appearance by Thing; the musical comedy has a little something for everyone. Here at Thespis Theatrical Costumiers we offer hand crafted costume hire for this show across many centuries as this show in particular requires a great deal of time periods in the ancestors. The various costumes range from 1950’s flight attendant to 1920’s flapper dress, prehistoric days of cavemen and even a Titanic victim. They are all thoroughly represented with intricate detailing to each outfit.Matching shoes are also available to hire as the complete set. Lack of colours are not featured within the main Addams household although traditionally hints of purple or burgundy may be seen in Morticia costume, which detracts from their overall “basic black” motif and lessens the shock value of the Beineke family when they arrive in their bright colours.
We probably have one of the best and largest costume sets for this show available to hire anywhere.
